As tired as your kids may be, they always seem to find that energy late in the day to want to stay awake, who can blame them, they’re adventurous souls who just want to stay awake and explore.

But there comes a point in the day where they need their rest, sleep as a child is almost important to their growth as food is, so here we’ve compiled a short list of tips to help you get your child to sleep.

1.) Turn a fan on and keep the room cool

A fan, not only keeps your child cool but also emits a noise which helps them sleep, the white noise that comes with the gentle whir of the blades really helps not only your child, but anyone sleep. They’re also great at drowning out any external noises that may shock your child into waking up.

2.) Be a boring parent

When bed time approaches settle down for your kids, act calmly and boringly and they’ll soon feel the same, this works especially well with babies as they don’t know the difference between day and night, but they do associate certain things with play time, and when your baby is crying away at 4am and you rush in all panicked, they’ll feel that energy and think its playtime, instead approach at a gentle pace and they’ll soon realise that its most certainly not play time.

3.) Make sure your child has a bedtime routine

Putting them in the bath before supper, asking them to brush their teeth after and reading them a story in bed or singing a lullaby is a common routine, and the reason for that is that it works great in making kids sleepy and ready for bed time.

4.) Feeding time for babies

A common dilemma for parents with newborn children is the worry of whether they should be waking them for their next feed or not. While babies need a constant supply of sustenance you’d be worried about having to wake them after they’ve just drifted off or having a really good sleep. Instead of waking them use what people call ‘the dream feed’. This involves allowing the baby to suckle while they’re still asleep, letting them rest their beady eyes while getting the sustenance they need.
