Auto-drip machines have become so popular these days that they’re now known as coffee makers (like there’s no other coffee maker out there)

Though these coffee makers offer limited control over the brewing of the coffee, it’s still a great little device for the ease of getting that brew made.

Here’s a tip or three to brewing great coffee with an coffee ma- I mean auto-drip machine.

1.) The measurements are very important

Getting the coffee to water ratio right is one of the most important things to making the perfect brew. Now how much water you use depends on the type of coffee you’re brewing. We say around the 1:18 mark usually makes a great brew.

2.) Clean your equipment

Make sure you clean your equipment more often than you probably do already. A lot of people just tend to make brew after brew with a small wipe down, but this can result in a mix of flavours and take away the taste of the brew you’re making, so give it a good clean often.

3.) Don’t leave the carafe on the hot plate.

The hot plate in many peoples eyes is to keep your coffee hot after brewing, but all it ends up doing is burning the coffee at the bottom of the carafe, leaving you with a bitter taste of burnt coffee. So instead of leaving there on the hot plate to keep hot, try timing the making of the brew for when you want it, if there’s some left over, just put it to one side.
